Headliner, Removing And Installing: Removing

Vehicles with sliding sunroof

-- Open the sun shade.

-- To avoid getting dirt on the headliner, clean the Removal Wedge:T40233  .

-- Push the Removal Wedge:T40233  between the frame -1- for the sliding sunroof and the headliner.

-- Loosen the headliner using the Removal Wedge:T40233  from the sliding sunroof frame all the way around -arrows-, as shown.

Continuation for all vehicles

-- Unclip the upper A-pillar trim panels in the transition area to the headliner. Refer to A-PILLAR TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the upper B-pillar trim panel without damaging the belt end fitting. Refer to B-PILLAR TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the C-pillar trim panels. Refer to C-PILLAR TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the D-pillar trim panels. Refer to D-PILLAR TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- If necessary, remove the covers for the interior rearview mirror.

-- Remove the sun visors. Refer to SUN VISOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the sun visor center support. Refer to SUN VISOR CENTER SUPPORT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the headliner storage compartment. Refer to HEADLINER STORAGE COMPARTMENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the interior lamps. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - CONTROLS IN ROOF TRIM PANEL .

-- Remove the roof grab handle. Refer to ROOF GRAB HANDLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Fold the rear seat backrest for the second and third row seat forward.

-- Fold the backrest of the front passenger seat as far as possible.

-- Disconnect the headliner wiring harness connector in the headliner frame.

CAUTION:
  • The headliner bends easily.
  • Replace the headliner if it is bent.
NOTE:

For the following steps, make sure that the Pliers:T10558  are positioned in the center of the retainers.

-- Loosen the clips -2- in the headliner frame -1- from the body mounts using the Pliers:T10558  .

-- At the same time keep tension on the headliner -1- -arrows- to prevent the already loosened clips -2- from re-engaging.

-- Hold the headliner -1- in position with a second technician and loosen the clips -2- in the rear area from the body using the Pry Lever:80 - 200  .

-- Slightly lower the headliner -1- and disconnect all connectors for the headliner wiring harness.

-- With a second technician carefully turn the headliner -1- toward the lower right and remove though the rear lid opening.
