Drive Axle, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Loosen the drive axle threaded connection. Refer to Drive Axle Threaded Connection, Loosening and Tightening .

-- Refer to Wheel, Removing .

-- Remove the rear center underbody trim panel. Refer to CENTER UNDERBODY TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Insert the Drive Shaft Remover - Thrust Piece: T10520/5 -1- in the Drive Shaft Remover Kit: T10520A -2-.

-- Secure the Drive Shaft Remover: T10520A -A- with three wheel bolts -3- on the brake drum -1-.

-- Remove the drive axle using the Drive Shaft Remover: T10520A .

I - Tighten the knurled nut -1- hand-tight.

II - Only turn the bolt -2- using a wrench -3-.

-- Disconnect the connector -2- at the parking brake motor -1-.

-- Unclip the wire -1- from the bracket -2- -arrows-.

-- Disconnect the connector -2- from the rear speed sensor -3-.

-- Insert the Support Device: VAS 6931/1 -B- into the Engine and Gearbox Jack: VAS 6931 -A-.

-- Secure the Support Device: VAS 6931/1 -B- with two wheel bolts -2- to the brake drum -1-.

-- Push the wheel bearing housing -1- with the Engine and Gearbox Jack: VAS 6931 -B- and Support Device: VAS 6931/1 -B- -A- lightly upward to support.

-- Remove the nut -3- and bolt -4- on the wheel bearing housing -1-.

-- Remove the bolt -5- from the wheel bearing housing -1-.

-- Remove the bolt -2- from the wheel bearing housing -1-.

CAUTION:

Risk of damaging the drive axle by removing the triple roller star out of the joint.

- Pay attention that the drive axle is not pulled from the inner joint.

- Pull the outer CV joint out of the wheel bearing housing.

-- Pivot the rear brake with the wheel bearing housing -1- as far as possible upward using the Engine and Gearbox Jack: VAS 6931 -A-.

-- Remove the drive axle from the wheel bearing housing.

-- Press the drive axle -1- out of the transmission -2- using an extractor lever -arrow-.
