Tie Rod End, Removing And Installing: Removing

The following information describes the removing and installing on the left side of the vehicle as an example.

-- Refer to Wheel, Removing .

-- Rotate the steering wheel to the left until stop.

-- Turn the steering as follows:

Conditions

For the left tie rod end, turn the steering to the left until stop.
For the right tie rod end, turn the steering to the right until stop.

-- Mark or measure the installation position of the tie rod end -3- on the tie rod -1-.

-- Loosen the nut -2- to do this counterhold on the hex fitting -arrow A- on the tie rod -1-.

-- Loosen the tie rod -1- at the tie rod end -3-. Position a suitable tool on the hex fitting -arrow A- and -arrow B- for this.

-- Loosen the nut -2- on the tie rod end -4- but do not remove it.

-- At the same time counterhold with a suitable tool on the pin.

-- Remove the nut -2- only to the end of the threads. To protect the thread, screw the nut -2- on the pin several turns.

CAUTION:

Damage to the wheel bearing housing! Loosened bushings on the wheel bearing housing due to incorrectly inserted ball joint puller.

- Position the ball joint puller in a way that the lower mount is supported on the socket and not on the wheel bearing housing.

-- Press off the tie rod end -4- from the wheel bearing housing -1- using the Puller - Ball Joint: 3287A -A-. Remove the nut -2-.

-- Remove the tie rod end -3- from the tie rod -1-.
