Steering Gear, Removing And Installing, LHD: Removing

The steering gear with the Power Steering Control Module -J500- will be called steering gear in the information that follows.

-- Turn the steering wheel in the straight position.

-- Disconnect the battery. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

-- Remove the front underbody trim panel. Refer to FRONT UNDERBODY TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the bolts -3-.

-- Remove the bolt -3-.

-- Remove the universal joint -1- from the steering gear -4- in the -direction of the arrow-.

-- Remove the tie rod on both sides of the vehicle. Refer to Tie Rod, Removing and Installing  .

-- Pry out the steering gear -1- with the threaded bushings -3- from the holes -arrows- of the subframe -2-.

-- Pivot the steering gear -1- first on the right side in the -direction of the arrow A-.

-- Afterward pivot the steering gear -1- in -direction of the arrow B-.

-- Disconnect the connectors -1- and -4- at the steering gear -3-.

-- Unclip the wire from the steering gear.

-- Remove the steering gear -3- downward.
