-- Remove the Wiper Motor Control Module -J400-. Refer to WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR V, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Vehicles with damping adjustment valve
-- Disconnect the connector -1- on the damping adjustment valve -2-.
Continuation for all vehicles
-- Remove the nut -3-.
-- Remove the bolt -5- from the wheel bearing housing -1-.
Risk of damaging the suspension strut by breaking the guide.
- Do not twist the suspension strut -3- when loosening.
- Do not turn the wheel bearing housing -1- against the guide -2-.
-- Insert the Spreader: VAS 751 003 -A- in the slit from the wheel bearing housing -1-.
-- Spread the wheel bearing housing -1- using the Spreader: VAS 751 003 -A-. At the same time using suitable tools on the hex fitting -B- turn the spindle and counterhold it on a flat surface -C-.
Risk of damaging the wheel housing by spreading apart too far.
- Do not spread the wheel housing farther than the specified dimension.
-- Spread the wheel bearing housing -1- using the Spreader: VAS 751 003 -A-.
Conditions
- The dimension -a- must be a maximum 7.8 mm.
- Turn only until the end stop of the Spreader Device: VAS 751 003 -A-.
-- Remove the bolt -2- from the wheel bearing housing -7-.
-- Secure the Support Device: VAS 6931/1 -A- with two wheel bolts -2-.
-- Place the Engine and Gearbox Jack: VAS 6931 -B- under the Support Device: VAS 6931/1 -A-.
-- Secure and support the wheel bearing housing -1-.
-- Remove the cap -1-.
-- Remove the bolts for the strut mount -2-.
-- Lower the wheel bearing housing -1- using the Engine and Gearbox Jack: VAS 6931 -B- and Support Device: VAS 6931/1 -A- until the suspension strut -2- hangs free.
-- Assemble the Suspension Strut Pre-loading Device: VAS 751 005 . Refer to the Owner's Manual.
-- Position the Suspension Strut Pre-loading Device - Support Plate: VAS 751 005/3 -A- on the suspension strut -1-.
Conditions
- The cut-outs must be in the guides -arrows-.
- The labeling "top" must point upward.
-- Position the Suspension Strut Pre-loading Device: VAS 751 005 on the suspension strut -1-.
-- Engage the hooks -B- from the Suspension Strut Pre-loading Device: VAS 751 005 in the Suspension Strut Pre-loading Device - Support Plate: VAS 751 005/3 -A-.
Conditions
- The hooks -B- from the Suspension Strut Pre-loading Device: VAS 751 005 must completely engage in the Suspension Strut Pre-loading Device - Support Plate: VAS 751 005/3 -A-.
-- Insert the pins -arrows- from the Suspension Strut Pre-loading Device - Support Plate: VAS 751 005/2 -C- in the suspension strut -1-.
Conditions
- The pins -arrows- from the Suspension Strut Pre-loading Device - Support Plate: VAS 751 005/2 -C- must be seated in the guides on the suspension strut -1-.
-- Position the pin -arrows- from the Suspension Strut Pre-loading Device - Support Plate: VAS 751 005/2 -C- on the suspension strut -1-.
Conditions
- The pin -arrows- from the Suspension Strut Pre-loading Device - Support Plate: VAS 751 005/2 -C- must contact the suspension strut -1-.
-- Turn the spindles from the Suspension Strut Pre-loading Device: VAS 751 005 -B- in the -direction of the arrow- alternating from side to side and evenly.
-- Turn the spindle from the Suspension Strut Pre-loading Device: VAS 751 005 -B- in the -direction of the arrow- until there is enough room to remove the suspension strut -1- is visible.
Conditions
- The procedure is completed when no threads are present on the spindle.
- Spring coils must not contact eachother.
