Axle Boot Clamp, TENSIONING

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Clamping Pliers: V.A.G 1682A

CAUTION:

Risk of damaging due to insufficiently tensioned clamps.

- The hard material of the CV boot makes it necessary to use a stainless steel hose clamp. It is only possible to work with the specified clamping pliers.

- Pay attention to the ease of movement of the tension rod spindle. Lubricate using a suitable lubricant.

- If the movement is sluggish, then the tension needed for the clamp is not reached for the specified tightening specification. Clean the threads of the spindle.

The description of how to tension the axle boot clamp is shown for the outer joint as an example.

Conditions

The CV boot -3- must be seated correctly on the joint -2-.
The CV boot -3- must be seated correctly on the drive axle.

-- Position the Clamping Pliers: V.A.G 1682A -A-.

Conditions

The blades of the Clamping Pliers: V.A.G 1682A -A- must be touching the edges of axle boot clamp -1-.

-- Tension the axle boot clamp -1- by turning the spindle, using a commercially available torque wrench -B- and the Clamping Pliers: V.A.G 1682A .

-- Do not tilt the Clamping Pliers: V.A.G 1682A -A-.
