Gas-Filled Strut, Removing And Installing: Removing
There is a risk of injury if the rear lid is loose.
- Support the rear lid.
There is a risk of damage to surrounding components if the rear lid is loose.
Paint damage possible.
- Support the rear lid.
-- Support the rear lid with the Hood Support: VAS 501 003 .
Risk of damaging the spring clip by prying out further.
Tearing of the spring clip is possible.
- Never pry the spring clip completely out of the ball socket.
-- Position a small commercially available screwdriver -5- under the spring clip -2-.
-- Lift the spring clip -2- in the -direction of the arrow A- over the ball socket -3-.
-- Remove the gas-filled strut -1- in the -direction of the arrow B- from the ball pin -5-.
-- Push back the spring clip -2- into the starting position.
-- Repeat the process at the second spring clamp -2-.
-- Remove the gas-filled strut -1- in the -direction of the arrow B- from the ball stud -4-.
If the gas-filled strut needs to be replaced:
-- Refer to Gas-Filled Strut, Preparing for Disposal .
