Glass Panel, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Remove the headliner. Refer to HEADLINER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the frame with sun shade. Refer to FRAME WITH SUN SHADE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING  .

-- Secure the Cutting Cord:VAS 861 001/1A  -2- in the piercing awl -4- from the Window Removal Set:VAS 861 001A  .

-- Tape off the area in the body flange where the piercing awl -4- will exit.

-- Insert the piercing awl -4- from the inside outward through the adhesive bead and pull the cutting cord -2- outward.

-- Place the cutting cord -2- all around under the glass panel -1-.

-- Press down the windshield seal using the commercially available plastic wedge and use the threading tool to insert the cutting cord -2- in between the glass panel -1- and the windshield.

-- Tape off the contact surface of the cutting cord -1- on the hinge -2- using commercially available adhesive tape.

-- Secure the outside end of the cutting cord -1- on the left hinge -2- -arrow-.

-- Secure the removal device -3- from the left front window removal set on the inside of the glass panel -1-.

-- Insert the cutting cord -2- in the removal device -3- from the window removal set.

-- Tension the cutting cord -2- with the removal device -3- out of the window removal set.

-- Cut free the side area of the glass panel -1- using the cutting cord -2- in the -direction of the arrow-.

Tip

If the centering pin -2- is damaged, the glass panel -1- can also be reused without the centering pin -2-.

-- Cut through the adhesive bead around the centering pin -2-.

-- Secure the removal device -3- from the right front window removal set on the inside of the glass panel -1-.

Tip

There are two adhesive beads between the glass panel -1- and the roof crossmember in the front area. Increased force is required for cutting through.

-- Warn the glass panel -1- in the area of the adhesive beads using the Hot Air Blower:V.A.G 1416  to 40 °C (104 °F) (104 °F).

-- Cut free the front area of the glass panel -1- using the cutting cord -2- in the -direction of the arrow-.

-- Secure the removal device -2- from the right rear window removal set on the inside of the glass panel -1-.

-- Cut free the side area of the glass panel using the cutting cord -3- in the -direction of the arrow-.

-- Secure the removal device -2- from the right rear window removal set on the inside of the glass panel -1-.

-- Cut free the rear area of the glass panel using the cutting cord -3- in the -direction of the arrow-.

Requirement

• The help of a second person is necessary for the following procedure.

-- Lift the glass panel using two suction lifters Double Suction Lifter:V.A.G 1344  from the vehicle.
