Coolant, Draining
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Adapter: VAS 691 005/5
- Shop Crane - Drip Tray: VAS 6208
- Compressed Air Adapter: VAS 542 007/5
Risk of damage for high-voltage components overheating.
- If the coolant is drained do not perform the HV charging process.
- Mark the vehicle respectively.
The cooling system can be under pressure. Risk of scalding by hot steam and hot coolant.
Possibility of scalding the skin and other parts of the body.
- Wear safety gloves.
- Wear protective eyewear.
- Reduce the pressure: cover the coolant expansion tank cap with a suitable towel and carefully open.
-- Open the coolant expansion tank cap -arrow-.
-- Remove the rear center underbody trim panel. Refer to CENTER UNDERBODY TRIM PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Open the hose clamp -arrow- on the Electric Drive Power and Control Electronics -JX1- and remove the coolant hose -1-.
-- Let the coolant drain into the Shop Crane - Drip Tray: VAS 6208 .
-- Screw the Adapter: VAS 691 005/5 -2- on the coolant expansion tank -1-.
-- Connect the Compressed Air Adapter: VAS 542 007/5 on the adapter -2-.
Tip
The pressure regulator in the Compressed Air Adapter: VAS 542 007/5 is non adjustable and set to 1 bar (14.5 psi).
Condition
- The help of a second person is necessary for the following procedure.
-- Hold the coolant hose -1- in the drip tray.
-- Connect the compressed air on the Compressed Air Adapter: VAS 542 007/5 .
-- Blow compressed air through the coolant expansion tank until no coolant is leaking out anymore.
