Driveshaft, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Remove the exhaust system. Refer to OVERVIEW - MUFFLER, PASSAT, ARTEON .

-- Remove the bolts -2 and 3-.

Ignore -1-

-- Check if there is a marking (a colored dot) on the flexible discs and the driveshaft flanges -arrows-.

-- If the marking is not there, then mark the position of the flexible disc to the driveshaft flange.

-- Remove the drive axle heat shield from the bevel box. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the bolts -A- and -B- from the bevel box. At the same time, remove the heat shield -1-.

-- Remove the center tunnel heat shield under the intermediate bearing. Refer to COMPONENT LOCATION OVERVIEW - UNDERBODY TRIM PANELS .

-- Remove the rear tunnel brace. Refer to TUNNEL BRACE, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- To loosen the driveshaft threaded connections, counterhold with the Adapter:T10172/5  -1- and the Counterhold Tool:T10172  -2- at the rear final drive.

-- Remove the bolts -1-.

-- Hold the driveshaft -2- into the installation position at the same time remove the bolts -1-.

-- At the same time, remove the driveshaft -2- toward the rear and fully extended.

-- When removing and installing the driveshaft, be careful not to damage the bushing -arrow-.

CAUTION:

To prevent damaging the protective boot in the intermediate bearing, remove and install the driveshaft in its fully extended position and also store it in this position.

-- Remove the rear muffler. Refer to OVERVIEW - MUFFLER, PASSAT, ARTEON .

-- Remove the bolts -2 and 3-.

Ignore -1-

-- Make sure there is a marking (colored dot) on the flexible disc and the driveshaft flange on the rear final drive -arrows-.

-- If the marking is not there, then mark the position of the flexible disc to the driveshaft flange on the rear final drive.

-- Remove the nuts -1-. At the same time, remove the brace -2-.

-- To loosen the driveshaft threaded connections, counterhold with the Adapter:T10172/5  -1- and the Counterhold Tool:T10172  -2- and also at the rear final drive.

-- Remove the bolts -1-.

-- Remove the bolts -1- from the intermediate bearing -2-.

-- Remove the driveshaft -A- from the alignment pins on the rear final drive and tie up using for example a wire -B- to the side of the body.
