Final Drive, Removing And Installing, Cc From My 2012, PASSAT From My 2011 And PASSAT Wagon From My 2011: Removing
-- Lift up the carpet in the luggage compartment.
If equipped:
-- Remove the temporary spare tire.
-- Remove the bracket and the carrier for the rail system. Refer to OVERVIEW - LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT FLOOR .
Continued for All Vehicles:
There are two markings -arrows- on the luggage compartment floor.
-- Drill a hole at each marking -1-. Remove the drill shavings while drilling, if possible.
Dimension -a- = 26 mm diameter
-- Deburr the holes and remove the shavings carefully.
Re-create the corrosion protection using the materials specified by the manufacturer. Refer to the appropriate Paint Repair Information.
-- Remove the bolts -arrow- through the holes.
These bolts must be replaced later.
-- Remove the center tunnel heat shield under the intermediate bearing. Refer to OVERVIEW - UNDERBODY TRIM PANELS .
-- Attach the front exhaust pipe -A- to the driveshaft intermediate bearing using the Tensioning Strap:T10038 .
-- Remove the exhaust pipe bracket from the subframe.
-- Separate the exhaust system at the clamping sleeve -arrows- and remove the rear section of the exhaust system. Refer to OVERVIEW - MUFFLER, PASSAT, ARTEON .
Incorrect handling can damage the coupling.
- Do not bend the coupling more than 10°.
- Do not load the coupling.
-- Remove the rear stabilizer bar. Refer to STABILIZER BAR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the left and right drive axles from the rear final drive and lower them carefully.
-- Before removing the driveshaft from the final drive, check if a marking (colored dot) is on the flexible disc and on the flange/final drive -arrows in magnified area-. If not, mark the installed position of the flexible disc.
-- Remove the flexible disc with the vibration damper from the rear final drive -arrows-.
-- To loosen the driveshaft threaded connections, counterhold with the Adapter:T10172/5 -1- and the Counterhold Tool:T10172 -2- and also at the rear final drive.
-- Support the rear final drive with the Engine and Gearbox Jack:VAS 6931 .
-- Remove the bolt -arrow- on the front mounting bracket.
This bolt must be replaced later.
-- Remove the top washer -C- from the mounting bracket.
-- Push the final drive as far as possible toward the rear.
-- Remove the driveshaft from the final drive and lay it on the tunnel brace; place a cloth on the tunnel brace to protect the shaft.
-- When removing and installing the driveshaft, always be careful not to damage the bushing -arrow-.
-- Secure the final drive -1- from falling using a strap and position it at an angle in the vehicle as shown using the Engine and Gearbox Jack:VAS 6931 -A- and lower it slightly at the same time.
Through generation V
-- Disconnect the connector -A- from the All-Wheel Drive Control Module -J492-.
From generation VI
-- Remove the connector -1- and free up the wire.
Continuation for All
-- Remove the vent lines -arrows- from the final drive.
-- Guide the driveshaft upward and support it in this position on the tunnel brace -1- with a commercially available rubber support.
-- Secure the final drive from falling using the strap from the universal mount.
-- To remove, lower the final drive more and pull >>forward<<, while ensuring that there is sufficient >>clearance<< with respect to other components.
