Oil Pan Upper Section, Removing And Installing: Installing
Install in the reverse order of removal while noting the following:
Risk of injuring the eyes from sealant residue.
- Wear protective eyewear.
Risk of injury due to chemical cleaning solutions. Chemical cleaning solutions can be easily inflammable and cause eye and skin irritation.
- Wear protective eyewear, safety gloves and a respirator.
- Pay attention to the safety data sheet and the operating instructions of the chemical.
-- Remove the sealant residue at the sealant surfaces using a brush from the Brush Cleaning Set:VAS 294 019 and commercially available chemical sealant remover.
Requirement
- The sealing surfaces must be free of sealant residue and lubricant.
-- Check the lower timing chain cover for deformation.
Requirement
- If a deformation is determined which cannot be repaired, then the lower timing chain cover must be replaced after installation of the oil pan upper section.
-- Attach the oil pan upper section without sealant and check the gap dimensions.
-- Check for dirt in the oil channels in the oil pan upper section and in the cylinder block.
-- Cut off the tube nozzle at the front marking, so that the diameter of the tube nozzle is 2 mm.
There is a risk that the lubrication system could be blocked by excess sealant.
- Do not apply sealant bead thicker than indicated.
-- Apply the sealant bead -arrow- using the Applicator Gun:VAS 6966 onto the sealing surface of the oil pan upper section.
Requirement
- The sealant bead thickness -arrow- must be 2 to 3 mm.
- In the area of the threaded holes, the sealant bead -arrow- must be applied to the inner side.
-- Apply sealant -arrows- between the cylinder block and the lower timing chain cover.
Requirement
- On the transmission side, the oil pan upper section and the cylinder block must be flush.
- The sealant bead thickness must be 2 to 3 mm.
-- Position the oil pan upper section, at the same time guide the oil pan drive chain.
-- Tighten the bolts.
-- Engage the wire clip -1- using the Elbow Assembly Tool:T10118 to the locating tab -arrow- of the oil pan upper section.
