Camshaft, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Remove the left air duct pipe. Refer to Left Air Duct Pipe, Removing and Installing .

-- Remove the ignition coil with power output stage. Refer to Ignition Coil With Power Output Stage, Removing and Installing .

-- Remove the upper coolant pipe. Refer to Upper Coolant Pipe, Removing and Installing .

Vehicles with Turbocharger Speed Sensor 1 -G688-

-- Disconnect the connector -2-.

Continuation for All Vehicles

-- Disconnect the connectors -1 through 4-.

-- Disconnect the connectors -arrows- from the cam adjustment actuators.

-- Free up the wire and move to the side.

-- Loosen clamps -1 and 2- and disconnect the coolant hoses.

CAUTION:

Risk of destroying the coolant pipes through deformation.

- Never change the coolant pipe bend shape.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and push the coolant line to the side.

-- Remove the high pressure pump. Refer to High Pressure Pump, Removing and Installing .

-- Remove the vacuum pump. Refer to VACUUM PUMP, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, 2.0L GASOLINE ENGINE  .

-- Replace the camshaft timing chain. Refer to Camshaft Timing Chain, Removing and Installing  .

-- Apply the oil pump drive chain.

-- Bring the engine support and engine mount into the installation position and tighten the bolts.

Requirement

-- Remove the engine support from the engine.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows-.

-- Release the crankcase ventilation hose -1- and remove.

-- Remove the oil separator. Refer to Oil Separator, Removing and Installing .

-- Install the Assembly Tool - Turning Over Tool:T10531/3  -A-.

Requirement

-- Install the Assembly Tool - Knurled Nut:T10531/4  -B-.

-- Turn the crankshaft with a commercially available 32 mm open end wrench 90° counter-clockwise out of "TDC".

-- Lower the pretension of the intake camshaft -2- using the Assembly Tool:T40427  -1- in direction of -arrow B-, pull out the Camshaft Locks:T40271/2  -4- from the camshaft chain sprocket splines -2- in direction of -arrow A- and bring the intake camshaft -2- into resting position.

-- Lower the pretension of the exhaust camshaft -1- using the Assembly Tool:T40427  -5- in direction of -arrow B-, pull out the Camshaft Locks:T40271/1  -6- from the camshaft chain sprocket splines -1- in direction of -arrow A- and bring the exhaust camshaft -1- into resting position.

-- Remove the cylinder head cover bolts in sequence -1 through 6-.

-- Carefully loosen the cylinder head cover -2- from the bonding with a commercially available screwdriver -1- and remove it together with the camshafts.

Requirement

-- Remove the camshaft and cover the open engine components.

If Other Procedures Need to be Performed:

-- Mark the roller rocker lever and hydraulic lifter for reinstallation, remove them and place on a clean surface.
