Camshaft, Removing And Installing: Installing
Install in the reverse order of removal while noting the following:
Requirement
- The crankshaft must not be at "TDC".
If Other Procedures were Done:
-- Install the roller rocker lever and the hydraulic lifter as instructed by the markings.
-- Make sure all the roller rocker levers lie correctly on the ends of the valve stems and are clipped onto the respective hydraulic lifters.
If the Crankshaft Has Been Turned in the Meantime:
-- Turn the crankshaft on the hex fitting -2- to the "TDC point".
Requirement
- In the "TDC" position the flat area -C- points upward.
-- Turn the crankshaft counter-clockwise by 90° from the "TDC point".
-- Cover open engine components.
Continuation
Risk of injuring the eyes from sealant residue.
- Wear protective eyewear.
-- Remove any sealant residue from the groove on the cylinder head cover and on the sealing surfaces.
Requirement
- The sealing surfaces must be free of sealant residue and lubricant.
-- Bring the cam actuator pins into installation position. Refer to Cam Actuator, Removing and Installing .
-- Coat the camshaft running surfaces with clean engine oil.
-- Remove the locks -A and B- in direction of -arrow-.
-- Insert the intake camshaft -1- in the cylinder head and align with the marking -2-.
Requirement
- Angle α = 30°.
- The cam lobes of cylinder 4 must point upward.
-- Align the intake camshaft centrally to the roller rocker lever.
Risk of injuring the eyes due to the sliding bar ball springing out.
- Wear protective eyewear.
-- Insert the exhaust camshaft into the cylinder head cover.
Requirement
- The cam pair -A and B- must be pushed together.
-- Turn the exhaust camshaft until the markings -A and B- align.
-- Cut off the tube nozzle at the front marking, so that the diameter of the tube nozzle is 2 mm.
Risk of engine damage due to excess sealant in the lubrication system.
- Do not apply sealant bead thicker than indicated.
-- Apply sealant -arrows- on the cylinder head cover sealing surface.
Requirement
- The sealant beads thickness -arrows- must be 1.5 to 2.5 mm.
-- Secure the camshaft and place the cylinder head cover with the camshaft on the cylinder head, at the same time pay attention to the alignment pins.
-- Press on the cylinder head cover by hand and at the same time move the camshafts back and forth slightly in directions of -arrow-, until the cylinder head cover is laying on the cylinder head without any tension.
-- Tighten the bolts in multiple steps.
Requirement
- Excess sealant which leaked while tightening must be removed.
-- Turn the intake camshaft -3- with the assembly tool -5- in direction of -arrow B- until the marks -1 and 2- align.
-- Push the lock -6- in direction of -arrow A- into the splines of the camshaft chain sprocket -3-.
-- Turn the exhaust camshaft -3- using the assembly tool -8- in direction of -arrow B-, until the marking -2- of the exhaust camshaft -3- is shifted by half a tooth clockwise to the marking -1- on the cylinder head cover.
-- Push the lock -7- in direction of -arrow A- into the splines of the camshaft chain sprocket -3-.
-- Set the crankshaft to "TDC", for this turn the crankshaft at the hex fitting of the turning over tool -A-.
Requirement
- The flattened surface -C- must be on top.
-- Remove the collar nut -B- and turn over tool -A-.
-- Installing the camshaft timing chain.
