Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Dial Indicator - 0-10mm:VAS 6079
- Dial Indicator Holder:VW387
The check procedure is described for a valve as an example.
Requirement
- If the valve is to be replaced as part of the repair, then the new valve must be checked.
- Because the valve stem diameters differ, use intake valves in the intake valve guides and exhaust valves in the exhaust valve guides.
-- Install the Dial Gauge Holder:VW387 -B- with Dial Indicator - 0-10mm:VAS 6079 -A- at the cylinder head -2-.
-- Insert the valve -1- into guide.
Requirement
- The valve stem end must be flush with the valve guide.
-- Determine the tilting clearance.
- Wear limit. Refer to Check and Adjustment Values .
Requirement
- If the wear limit is exceeded, then the test must be repeated with new valves.
- If the wear limit is exceeded with new valves, then the cylinder head must be replaced.
Tip
The valve guides cannot be replaced.
