Cylinder Head, Removing And Installing: Removing

In the following procedure use the plugs from the Engine Bung Set:VAS 6122  .

Cover the opening of the transmission with a cleaning cloth, so that no fluids can enter the clutch housing.

-- Refer to DRAIN THE COOLANT .

-- Remove the camshafts. Refer to Camshaft, Removing and Installing  or Camshaft, Removing and Installing  .

-- Free up the connector -arrow- for the Oxygen Sensor 1 after Catalytic Converter -GX7- and disconnect.

-- Remove the screws -arrows- and then remove the turbocharger -1- connections.

-- Loosen the clamp -arrow- and remove the charge air hose.

-- Loosen the clamps -2- and remove the hoses.

-- Remove the bolt -1- and free up the control lines.

-- Remove the Oxygen Sensor 1 Before Catalytic Converter -GX10-. Refer to HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

For clarity, the following procedures are shown with the engine removed.

-- Remove the bolt -1- and remove clamp.

-- Loosen the bolt -2- and disengage the catalytic converter upward and push to the side.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows-.

-- Remove the nuts -1- and then remove the heat shield.

-- Remove the front coolant pipe. Refer to Front Coolant Pipe, Removing and Installing .

-- Lift the clamp -1- and remove the coolant hose.

-- Disconnect the connectors -1 and 2-.

-- Free up the wire and push to the side.

-- Free up the connectors -2 and 3- and disconnect.

-- Disconnect the connectors -4 and 5-.

-- Remove the bolts -1-.

-- Disconnect the connectors -2 and 3-.

-- Loosen the clamp -1- and remove the coolant hose.

-- Free up the coolant hoses.

-- Disconnect the connector -2- for the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor - G62-.

-- Free up the coolant hoses.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and push the oil supply line -1- to the side.

-- Remove the bolts -arrows-, and remove the coolant connection -1- and the turbocharger oil return line -2-.

-- Disconnect and free up the connector -arrow- for the Charge Air Pressure Control Module -GX34-.

-- Remove the spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plugs, Replacing.

-- Remove the bolts -2-.

-- Remove the bolts -1 through 10- using the Socket:T40270  in sequence.

-- Make sure that all hose connections and wires are loosened.

Requirement

-- Remove the cylinder head and lay it on a soft surface. To do so use a suitable foam pad.

-- Remove the coolant sitting on the pistons and adhered to the cylinder walls using a clean cleaning cloth.
