Pistons, Removing And Installing: Removing
-- Refer to Engine, Securing to Engine and Transmission Holder .
-- Remove the engine cover. Refer to Cylinder Head, Removing and Installing .
-- Remove the oil pan upper section. Refer to Oil Pan Upper Section, Removing and Installing .
Risk of damage to the piston head coating by mechanical forces.
- Only use a felt-tip pen or paint to mark the piston.
-- Label the installation position and the piston allocation.
-- Mark the installed position and which connecting rod belongs to which cylinder and connecting rod bearing cap.
-- Pay attention to the allocation of the bearing shells.
-1- = Connecting Rod Bearing Cap Bearing Shell: Two White Stripes
-2- = Connecting Rod Bearing Shell: One White Stripe
-- Remove the bolts -arrows-.
-- Remove the connecting rod bearing cap -1- and remove the piston and connecting rod upward.
-- Remove the circlip -2- on both sides from the piston pin axis.
-- Drive out the piston pin -3- using the Pilot Drift:VW 222 A .
Requirement
- If the piston pin -3- has no ease of movement, then the piston -1- may be warmed to 60 °C (140 °F).
-- Remove the pistons -1- from the connecting rod -4-.
