Pistons, Removing And Installing: Installing

Install in the reverse order of removal while noting the following:

Requirement

• During the installation, pay attention to all allocations and installation positions.

-- Install the oil scraping ring by hand, at the same time pay attention to the installation position of the spring.

Requirement

• The plunger of the plates -2 and 3- and the spring -1- must be offset 90° to each other.

-- Insert the spring -1- in the groove.

-- Insert the spring -3- in the lower groove.

-- Insert the spring -3- in the upper groove.

Requirement

• The markings "TOP" must point upward.

-- Insert the compression ring -1- with the bevel at the inner upper side -A- into the upper groove.

-- Insert the compression ring -2- with the ledge on the bottom -B- on the outside in the center groove.

-- Lay the compression ring -2- in the Piston Ring Pliers:VAS 211 003  -A-.

-- Only open the compression ring -2- using the Piston Ring Pliers -A-, until the compression ring -2- can be pushed over the pistons -1-.

Requirement

• The marking "Top" must point upward.
• The gaps of the oil scraping ring and the compression rings must be at an 120° offset.

-- Oil the contact surface of the bearing shells and cylinder walls.

-- Pay attention to the marked installation position.

Requirement

• The arrow on the piston crown -arrow- must point to the belt pulley side.

-- Carefully insert the piston -1- with the Funnel:T40347  -A- by hand in direction of -arrow- into the cylinder.

-- Install the connecting rod bearing cap, at the same time pay attention to the marked installation position.
