General Information On Cleaning With Compressed Air
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 and 2021 Volkswagen ID.4. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
The refrigerant circuit must be cleaned with refrigerant R1234yf or R134a (flushed with refrigerant R1234yf or R134a) in order to remove moisture and other contaminants as well as old refrigerant oil from the refrigerant circuit as cleanly and efficiently as possible, without wasting refrigerant, without the need for extensive assembly work and without endangering the environment. Refer to REFRIGERANT CIRCUIT, CLEANING .
The refrigerant circuit can be cleaned with compressed air and forming gas, for example, when only individual components should be cleaned.
- Since the component connections are currently the same for refrigerant R744, the refrigerant circuit can be flushed in multiple stages, or individual components can be flushed (for example, the gas cooler with the refrigerant lines from the A/C compressor). This may be useful, for example, when the refrigerant oil must be flushed out of a damaged gas cooler that is still sealed to determine the refrigerant oil amount. The flushing sequence is performed the same way as when flushing the entire refrigerant circuit. Refer to REFRIGERANT CIRCUIT, CLEANING .
- Under certain conditions, it may be sufficient to blow through certain components (for example, individual refrigerant lines or refrigerant hoses) with compressed air (for example, for the purpose of forcing out old refrigerant oil from individual components that were removed).
- Certain contaminants cannot be removed from the refrigerant circuit with compressed air, or can only be insufficiently removed. These contaminants can be removed, for example, by cleaning (flushing) with refrigerant R1234yf or R134a. Refer to REFRIGERANT CIRCUIT, CLEANING .
- The refrigerant circuit may be cleaned (flushed) with an A/C Service Station for the refrigerant R134a and flushed with refrigerant R1234yf if no A/C Service Station for the refrigerant R1234yf is available. It is currently permitted to use refrigerant R134a to clean the refrigerant circuit. Refer to REFRIGERANT CIRCUIT, CLEANING .
- Compressed air cannot be blown through the expansion valve, the A/C compressor or the accumulator.
