Expansion Valve

Expansion Valve in Front of Heater and A/C Unit Evaporator

Depending on the design and the refrigerant circuit version, either a single- or two-stage expansion valve -A- is installed.

There may be a filter (screen) installed in the inlet -B-, which protects the expansion valve from any floating debris that is being carried along in the refrigerant circuit. If the filter is dirty, clean the refrigerant circuit.
The refrigerant flows at a lower pressure to the evaporator through the outlet -C-.
The arrows on the expansion valve -A- indicate the refrigerant flow direction (from the inner heat exchanger to the evaporator).
Before installing, check for debris, and clean or replace if necessary.
