Heater And A/C Unit, Removing And Installing: Removing
Vehicles with 176 kW TDI Biturbo Engine
-- Remove the engine. Refer to [For engine(s) DSFB] Engine, Removing and Installing .
Continuation for All Vehicles
-- Remove the engine cover if necessary. Refer to ENGINE COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- If necessary, remove the air filter housing. Refer to OVERVIEW - AIR FILTER HOUSING .
-- Disconnect the refrigerant line with inner heat exchanger from the expansion valve. Refer to REFRIGERANT LINES WITH INNER HEAT EXCHANGER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- For all the following work, close the open lines and connections with clean plugs from the :VAS6122 .
-- Mark the coolant hoses -2 and 3- so that they are reconnected later on the correct side. The heater core is only designed for a specific flow direction of the coolant.
-- Clamp off the coolant hoses with the :3094 -1 and 4-.
The cooling system may be under pressure. There is a risk of scalding due to hot steam and hot coolant.
Scalding the skin and other parts of the body is possible.
- Wear safety gloves.
- Wear protective eyewear.
- Reduce the pressure by covering the coolant expansion tank cap with a suitable towel and carefully opening it.
-- Lift the clamps.
-- Remove the coolant hoses.
-- Connect a section of hose to the upper connection.
-- Slide the compressed-air gun into the end of the hose.
-- Hold the container under the lower connection and carefully blow out coolant from the heater core using the compressed air gun.
-- Remove the instrument panel crossmember. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL CROSSMEMBER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- If necessary remove the air duct to the rear vent. Refer to REAR CENTER CONSOLE VENT AIR DUCT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Lift the rear footwell vent underneath the front seat and pull rearward to facilitate removing the footwell vent from the heater and A/C Unit.
-- Remove the rear footwell vent from the heater and A/C unit.
-- Disconnect the connector -3-.
-- Disconnect the connector -5-.
-- Cover the carpet and Airbag Control Module -J234- in the vehicle interior with a waterproof foil and absorbent paper.
-- Remove the condensation water drain hose -2- from the heater and A/C unit -1-.
-- Remove the heater and A/C unit -1- from the bracket on the plenum chamber bulkhead.
-- Unhook the wiring harness -1- -arrows-.
-- Remove the cable channel -2- from the mounts -arrows-.
The following steps must be performed with a second technician.
-- Remove the heater and A/C unit to the side.
