Brake Master Cylinder, Removing And Installing, LHD Vehicles: Removing
-- Disconnect the battery. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
Hybrid vehicles
-- Remove the Electric Drive Power and Control Electronics -JX1-. Refer to the appropriate Service Information .
-- Remove the bracket for the Electric Drive Power and Control Electronics -JX1-. Refer to the appropriate Service Information .
Vehicles with Turbocharger:
-- Remove the air filter housing. Refer to OVERVIEW - AIR FILTER HOUSING .
-- Remove the air duct hose between the turbocharger and the air filter housing. Refer to OVERVIEW - AIR FILTER HOUSING .
-- Remove the intake tube on the turbocharger. Refer to TURBOCHARGER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, DNFC, DNFE, DNFF, DNFG, DSFB, DSFE AND DSFF .
Vehicles with 12 V engine compartment battery
-- Remove the battery. Refer to BATTERY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the battery tray. Refer to BATTERY TRAY, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Vehicles with 12 V luggage compartment battery
-- Remove the air filter housing. Refer to OVERVIEW - AIR FILTER HOUSING .
Vehicles with Diesel Engine:
-- If equipped, free up the wiring harness -3- on the brake line -5-.
-- Move the NOx Sensor Control Module -J583- to the side.
-- Unclip the cable holder -4- on the brake line -5-.
-- Remove the bolt -2- and remove the air duct pipe -1-.
Continuation for All Vehicles:
-- Place sufficient lint-free cloths in the area of the motor, subframe and transmission.
-- Extract as much brake fluid as possible from the brake fluid reservoir -1- with the Brake Filling and Bleeding Equipment:VAS6860US -A-.
Vehicles with Manual Transmission:
-- Remove the return hose -4- on the clutch master cylinder -3- and on the brake fluid reservoir -1-.
-- Close off the clutch master cylinder hose -4- using the Engine Bung Set:VAS 6122 or the Hose Clamps - Up To 25mm:3094 .
Continuation for All Vehicles:
-- Release and disconnect the Brake Fluid Level Warning Switch - F34- connector -4- from the brake fluid reservoir.
-- Unclip the wiring harness -8- on the brake master cylinder -1-.
-- Remove the brake lines -3- and -5- on the brake master cylinder -1-.
-- Seal off the threaded holes immediately using the Plugs:1H0 698 311 A or plugs with assembly part number 5Q0 698 311.
-- Seal the brake lines with plugs from the Repair Kit part number 1H0 698 311 A or with the Engine Bung Set:VAS 6122 . If necessary, place the breather valve dust caps on the brake lines.
-- Remove the nuts -7-.
-- Release and remove the connectors -2- and -6-.
-- Carefully take the brake master cylinder -1- out of the brake booster.
