Transmission Fluid Pan, Removing And Installing

Removing

-- Remove the noise insulation. Refer to OVERVIEW - NOISE INSULATION .

-- Disconnect the connector from the Oil Level Thermal Sensor -G266-.

-- Drain the engine oil.

FWD Vehicles:

-- Remove the heat shield above the right drive axle.

All Vehicles:

-- Remove the ribbed belt. Refer to RIBBED BELT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the cap -1- from the transmission -2-.

-- Remove the transmission/oil pan bolts -arrows-.

-- Remove the oil pan bolts on the transmission side -arrows- using the Socket - Xzn 8:T40159  .

-- Remove the remaining oil pan bolts and then remove the oil pan.

-- Tap the oil pan with a rubber hammer to loosen it, if necessary.

-- Remove any sealant residue on the cylinder block using a flat blade scraper.

CAUTION:

Risk of injuring the eyes from sealant residue.

- Wear protective eyewear.

-- Remove any sealant residue from the pan with a rotating brush, for example, using a hand drill with a plastic brush attachment.

-- Clean the sealing surfaces. They must be free of oil and grease.

Installing:

-- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter: approximately 3 mm).

-- Apply Sealant on the cleaned sealing surface on the oil pan as illustrated. The sealant bead must be:

NOTE:

The sealing compound bead must not be thicker, otherwise excess sealing compound will enter the oil pan and may block the oil pump oil intake pipe screen.

Be sure to check the expiration date of the sealant.

The oil pan must be installed within five minutes of applying the silicone sealant.

After installing the oil pan, allow the sealant to dry for approximately 30 minutes. Only afterward may the engine oil be replenished.

-- Mount the oil pan immediately and tighten all oil pan bolts lightly.

-- Tighten the oil pan/transmission bolts -arrows- hand-tight. The oil pan must contact the transmission.

-- Tighten all bolts.

Component Tightening Specification
Oil pan bolts  OVERVIEW - OIL PAN/OIL PUMP
Oil pan/transmission bolts 45 Nm

Further assembly is performed in the reverse order of the removal.
