Fiber-Optic Cables, Repairing
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Fiber-Optic Repair Set:VAS 6223B
- Hose Cutting Pliers:VAS 6228
- Fiber-Optic Repair Set - Tube Tool:VAS 6223/10
Replace damaged fiber-optic cable with new cable from the Fiber Optic Pliers Repair Set:VAS 6223B . Make new cable by using the repair kit and route parallel to the faulty fiber-optic cable.
Tip
Via the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester it can be determined which component of the fiber-optic cable is damaged.
Fiber optic cable, cutting to length
-- Install the tool head to the fiber-optic cable pliers from the repair kit.
-- Determine the necessary length of the fiber-optic cable.
-- Open the pliers. Insert the fiber-optic cable -1- in -direction of the arrow- into the mount.
-- Close the pliers to cut the fiber-optic cable lengths.
Strip the fiber-optic cable
-- Open the pliers.
-- Push the wire stripper all the way in the -direction of the arrow-.
-- Position the fiber-optic cable in the stripper mount.
Conditions
- The end of the fiber-optic cable must be flush with the rear side of the pliers.
-- Close pliers and keep closed.
-- Push the wire stripper all the way in the -direction of the arrow-.
-- Remove the fiber-optic cable.
Cut precisely
-- Push the fiber-optic cable -1- in the cutting edge mount.
Conditions
- The insulation must make contact with the cutting point stop.
-- Remove the pliers and the fiber-optic cable -1-.
Conditions
- There must be no device on the front surface.
Attaching the brass pin contact on the fiber-optic cable.
-- Change the tool head on the pliers.
-- Push the retainer on the tool head in -direction of the arrow-.
Conditions
- The word "STIFT" must be visible.
-- Place a brass contact pin -1- in the mount.
-- Close the safety lever on the tool head in the -direction of the arrow-.
-- Insert the fiber-optic cable in the brass contact pin -arrow- until the spring is completely compressed.
-- Close the pliers completely and then open.
-- Remove the fiber-optic cable with the brass contact pin -arrow-.
-- Make sure the brass pin contact -2- is secured properly on the fiber-optic cable -1-.
Conditions
- On the brass pin contact -2- the four crimping position must be visible.
- The brass pin contact -2- must not be able to be removed by hand from the fiber-optic cable -1-.
-- Check the fiber-optic cable for damage -1-.
Conditions
- The front surface of the fiber-optic cable -1- is 0.01 to 0.1 mm behind the brass pin contact -2-.
Corrugated tube on fiber-optic cable, installing
-- Cut off the needed length from the corrugated tube using the Hose Cutting Pliers:VAS 6228 .
Conditions
- The corrugated tube must be cut at a high point.
- The corrugated tube must engage audibly in the fiber-optic cable housing.
-- Guide the fiber-optic cable -1- into the Fiber-Optic Repair Set - Tube Tool:VAS 6223/10 -A-.
-- Place the pliers -A- at the slot of the corrugated tube -2-.
-- Move the pliers -A- along the corrugated tube -2-.
-- Place the fiber-optic cable -1- in the corrugated tube -2-.
