Overview - Differential, Fwd

NOTE:
To install, heat the bearing inner races/tapered roller bearing to approximately 100 °C (212 °F) with : VAS6414 . Wear protective gloves.
Replace both tapered roller bearings together.
Adjust the differential when replacing the tapered roller bearing, differential housing, transmission housing or clutch housing. Refer to DIFFERENTIAL, ADJUSTING .

- Outer Race/Tapered Roller Bearing
- Bearing Inner Race/Taper Roller Bearing
- Differential Housing
- With differential bevel gears, thrust washer union, differential bevel gear axle and final drive gear
- Differential Bevel Gear, Thrust Washer Union and Differential Bevel Gear Axle, Removing. Refer to Figure
- Differential Bevel Gear, Thrust Washer Union and Differential Bevel Gear Axle, Installing. Refer to Figure
- Bearing Inner Race/Taper Roller Bearing
- Outer Race/Tapered Roller Bearing
- Washer
- Installed position: the collar on the inner circumference faces the right flange shaft
- Clutch Housing
- Seal
- Replace after removing
- For the right flange shaft
- Replacing with the transmission installed. Refer to RIGHT SEAL, REPLACING, FWD .
- Bolt
- 33 Nm
- Replace after removing
- Right Flange Shaft
- Protective Ring
- Alternating from side to side, pry the protective ring off of the right flange shaft with a screwdriver.
- Installation position: depression faces away from the threaded holes in the flange shaft
- Install the ring all the way by hand. Refer to OVERVIEW - DIFFERENTIAL .
- The protective ring must engage in the flange shaft.
- Flange Shaft Pressure Spring
- Installed behind the flange shaft
- Thrust Washer
- Installation position: collar faces the pressure spring; tabs (if equipped) face the tapered ring
- Tapered Ring
- Installation position: taper faces the differential housing
- Circlip
- Holds the tapered ring, the thrust washer and the pressure spring when the flange shaft is removed
- Protective Ring
- Alternating from side to side, pry the protective ring off of the left flange shaft with a screwdriver.
- Installation position: depression faces away from the threaded holes in the flange shaft
- Install the protective ring all the way by hand.
- The protective ring must engage in the flange shaft.
- Left Flange Shaft
- Seal
- Replace after removing
- For the left flange shaft
- Replacing. Refer to LEFT SEAL, REPLACING .
