Exhaust Camshaft Adjuster, Removing And Installing: Removing
-- Place a cleaning cloth under the camshaft adjuster and the tensioning roller to catch escaping engine oil.
-- The contact points for the toothed belt, as on the camshaft sprocket, crankshaft toothed belt sprockets, tensioning roller and the idler roller must be kept free of oil.
To remove the camshaft adjuster for the exhaust camshaft, the engine support and the lower toothed belt guard only need to be loosened.
To do so, only unscrew the bolts just enough.
Then the upper engine support will tilt away from the engine.
-- Loosen the engine support. Refer to ENGINE SUPPORT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Remove the toothed belt from the camshafts. Refer to TOOTHED BELT, REMOVING FROM CAMSHAFTS .
-- Remove the bolts -arrows- and then remove the cover from the exhaust camshaft adjuster.
-- To reach the following bolts, the camshaft must be turned further.
-- Remove the cover from the camshaft adjuster for the exhaust camshaft.
Installing the :T10554
- The distance between the pins -1 and 2- from the :T10554 varies.
- The :T10554 can only be inserted in one position.
- Never use the camshaft positioning tool as a counterholder.
-- Guide the : T10554 between the camshaft adjuster and the engine support.
-- Turn the :T10554 so that the : T10554 can be inserted in the holes -arrows- as shown.
-- Place the :T10554 flat on the camshaft adjuster -1-.
-- Loosen the bolt -1- one turn. Secure the exhaust camshaft adjuster from turning using the :T10554 and :T10172A .
-- Loosen the bolt from the intake camshaft adjuster. Refer to INTAKE CAMSHAFT ADJUSTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, VEHICLES WITH ADJUSTABLE EXHAUST CAMSHAFT .
-- Remove the exhaust camshaft adjuster.
