Toothed Belt, Removing And Installing, Vehicles With Adjustable Exhaust Camshaft: Removing

-- Position the engine in the "TDC position for cylinder 1". Refer to VALVE TIMING, CHECKING .

-- Remove the toothed belt from the camshaft. Refer to TOOTHED BELT, REMOVING FROM CAMSHAFT .

-- Remove the vibration damper. Refer to VIBRATION DAMPER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the lower toothed belt guard. Refer to LOWER TOOTHED BELT GUARD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Before removing the toothed belt, mark the running direction with chalk or a felt-tip pen for installation later.

There is a risk of destroying a used toothed belt if the running direction is reversed.

The toothed belt is made out of a fiberglass cord webbing.

The bending radius -r- on the toothed belt -2- must not exceed 25 mm.

Otherwise the service life of the toothed belt would be impaired.

-- Remove the toothed belt.

NOTE:

Risk of destroying the engine by adjusting the valve timing.

Do not turn the crankshaft out of TDC.

-- Remove the crankshaft toothed belt sprocket -1- in direction of -arrow-.
