Coolant Pump, Removing And Installing: Installing
-- Replace the toothed belt coolant pump.
-- Replace the housing seal -arrows-.
-- Make sure the seals fit correctly -arrows-.
-- Coat the seal on the coolant pump with coolant.
Perform the following procedure for installing the coolant pump exactly in the sequence given.
This will assure the toothed belt is tensioned correctly.
A second technician is needed for the following procedure.
-- Turn cylinder 1 to TDC. Refer to VALVE TIMING, CHECKING .
-- Lay the toothed belt in the center and move the coolant pump into its installed position.
-- Position the coolant pump and bolts on the cylinder head.
-- Tighten the bolts in the specified sequence.

| 1 | -1 through 5- | Install by hand all the way |
| 2 | -1 through 5- | 10 Nm |
-- Loosen all the bolts one more turn.
-- Position the : VAS6583 with a 10 mm inner hex socket -6- on the coolant pump.
For better handling, position the : VAS6583 vertically.
-- Have the second technician pre-tension the coolant pump to 30 Nm.
Support the torque wrench with the other hand.
Do not put >>too much pressure<< on the torque wrench.
-- While the coolant pump is being held, tighten the bolts in the following sequence:

| 4 | -3, 4, 5, 1 and 2- | 12 Nm |
Further installation is performed in reverse order of removal, while noting the following:
Coolant hose connection diagram. Refer to CONNECTION DIAGRAM - COOLANT HOSES .
