Overview - Brake Booster/Brake Master Cylinder, RHD

NOTE:
Use only new brake fluid. Observe information on brake fluid reservoir!
- Cap
- With Brake Fluid Level Warning Switch -F34-
- Brake Fluid Reservoir
- Removing and Installing. Refer to BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, RHD .
- Plugs
- Coat with brake fluid and press into brake fluid reservoir
- Check for proper seating
- Brake Line
- Brake master cylinder/primary piston circuit to the ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55-
- Identification: 6.5 mm diameter and tube fitting with a M12 x 1 thread
- 14 Nm
- Vacuum Line
- Insert in the brake booster
- Refer to the appropriate Parts Information for the allocation.
- Check if brake booster is malfunctioning. Refer to VACUUM SYSTEM, CHECKING .
- Plugs
- Check for proper seating
- Vacuum line connection
- Brake Booster
- On gasoline engines, the required vacuum is supplied either by the intake manifold or by a vacuum pump.
- Function Test:
-- With the engine switched off, press the brake pedal firmly several times (to reduce the vacuum in the device).
-- Hold the brake pedal with average foot pressure and start the engine. If the brake booster is working properly, the brake pedal will be felt to give noticeably under foot (booster becomes effective).
- Replace as a unit in the event of malfunction (previously, check all vacuum lines).
- Refer to the appropriate Parts Information for the allocation.
- Check the brake booster vacuum system for malfunction. Refer to VACUUM SYSTEM, CHECKING
- Removing and Installing. Refer to BRAKE BOOSTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Seal
- For the brake booster
- Replace after removing.
- Bonded, only at the factory
- The new seal between the brake booster and bulkhead must not be bonded
- Heat Shield
- If equipped
- Nuts
- Quantity: 4
- Replace after removing.
- 25 Nm
- Pedal Assembly
- Removing and Installing. Refer to MOUNTING BRACKET, REMOVING AND INSTALLING, RHD .
- Seal
- Replace after removing.
- Brake Master Cylinder
- Refer to the appropriate Parts Information for the allocation.
- Cannot be serviced. Replace as a complete unit if malfunctioning.
- Removing and Installing. Refer to BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Bolt
- 5 Nm
- Brake Lamp Switch -F-
- Including the Brake Pedal Switch -F47-
- Nuts
- Quantity: 2
- Always replace if removed
- 25 Nm
- Brake Line
- Brake master cylinder/secondary piston circuit to the ABS Hydraulic Unit -N55-
- Identification: 6.5 mm diameter and tube fitting with a M12 x 1 thread
- 14 Nm
- Bolt
- 4 Nm
