Camshaft Timing Chain, Removing And Installing: Installing

Requirements:

The crankshaft is at "TDC" : the V-shaped cut-out on the crankshaft chain sprocket point in an imaginary vertical line -arrows- centered between the camshaft chain sprockets.
Crankshaft chain sprocket locked with the : T10531/2 .

Camshaft chain sprockets locked at "TDC" using the : T40271/1 and : T40271/2 .

The marks -arrows- must be positioned opposite each other.
The marks on the exhaust camshaft is slightly offset to the right.
The marks (notch with point behind) are additionally marked with a waterproof marker. The points on the teeth will be partially covered by the timing chain.

-- Engage the camshaft timing chain with the painted links -arrows- on the camshaft pins.

-- Place the camshaft timing chain on the intake camshaft, exhaust camshaft and the crankshaft chain sprocket.

The painted chain links must align with the markings on the chain sprockets -arrows-.

-- Insert the guide rail -2- and tighten the guide pin -1-.

-- Insert the guide track -1- and tighten the bolts -arrows-.

The help of a second technician is necessary for the following step.

I - Turn the exhaust camshaft slightly in the direction of the -arrow A- using the : T40266 and push the : T40271/1 out of the chain sprocket splines in direction of -arrow B-.

II - Release the camshaft in the direction in direction of -arrow C-, until the timing chain touches the guide rail -1-. Hold the camshaft in this position, install the tensioning rail -2- and tighten the bolts -3-.

NOTE:

If the camshaft is not counterheld until the tensioning rail is installed, the timing chain may come off.

-- Lock the intake camshaft pretension using the : T40266 in the direction of the -arrow A-, pull the : T40271/2 from the chain sprocket splines in direction of -arrow B- and bring the camshaft into the rest position.

-- Remove the : T40271/1 and : T40271/2 .

-- Install the bolts -arrows- and tighten them. Tightening specification. Refer to -Item ) OVERVIEW - CYLINDER HEAD - List Item: Bolt.

-- The adapter sleeve -1- must be driven back before reusing the bearing bracket. The adapter sleeve must be flush with the cylinder head side of the bearing bracket.

-- Lubricate the holes -arrows- with engine oil.

-- Attach the bearing mount. Do not tilt it when doing this! Tighten the bolts -1 to 6- hand-tight.

-- The adapter sleeve will be pulled in the cylinder head with the bolt -1-.

-- Remove the : T40267 .

-- Tighten the bearing bracket bolts. Tightening specification and sequence. Refer to Figure.

-- Install the oil pump chain.

-- Insert the chain tensioner -2- and tighten the guide pin -1-.

-- Remove the : T40011 . At the same time wire clip must make contact in the opening on the oil pan upper section -arrow-.

-- Checking adjustment:

The painted chain links must align with the markings on the chain sprockets -arrows-.

-- Install the control valve. Refer to -Item ) OVERVIEW - CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAINS - List Item: Control Valves.

-- Let the engine turn a second time in the direction of engine rotation.

NOTE:

Due to the ratio, the painted chain links no longer match up after the engine has been turned.

-- Remove the turning over tool and install the lower timing chain cover. Refer to Installing .

-- Install the vibration damper. Refer to VIBRATION DAMPER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the upper timing chain cover. Refer to TIMING CHAIN COVER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the ribbed belt tensioner. Refer to RIBBED BELT TENSIONER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Install the ribbed belt. Refer to RIBBED BELT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

Further installation is performed in reverse order of removal, while noting the following:

-- After performing work on the chain drive the adaptation value in the engine control module must be adapted. To do so, turn on the ignition and select the following menu items on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester:
