Rear Lid, Adjusting, Convertible: Notes

NOTE:

The rear lid hinges on a Beetle Convertible have centering pins on each side.

It is not necessary to adjust the rear lid if the same lid is being removed and then installed again.

3 - Threaded pin on the rear lid

4 - Nut on the hinge

5 - Hinge

6 - Nut on the centering pin

NOTE:

The vehicle must be on all four wheels when adjusting the rear lid.

The latch -2- is bolted directly to the rear lid -1-. It does not have any oblong holes so it cannot be adjusted.

The left and right adjusting buffers -3- are not meant for adjusting. They stabilize or cushion the rear lid.

The rear lid is properly adjusted when there is an overall even gap dimension when closed, it is not too far inward or outward and contours align.

Rear lid must engage in catch -4- without great force.

-- Make sure the adjusting buffers do not have too much pre-tension. Refer to Adjusting Buffer, Adjusting .

To adjust or check the gap dimensions, use the :3371 . Refer to the appropriate service information .

-- Loosen the nuts -6- and the nuts on the centering pins -7- and adjust the rear lid in direction of -arrow a and arrow b-.

-- Loosen the bolts -5- and adjust the rear lid in direction of -arrow c and arrow d-.

-- Adjust the striker. Refer to Striker, Adjusting .

-- After adjusting, apply a corrosion protection to the hinge and bolts.
