Heater And A/C Unit, Removing And Installing: Removing

-- Switch off the ignition.

-- Disconnect the battery. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

-- Cover the driver seat and front passenger seat with seat covers.

-- Cover the carpet in the front right and left footwell with a fluid resistant foil and absorbent paper.

-- Place the : VAS6208 under the engine.

-- Discharge the coolant circuit. Refer to .

-- Remove the nut -1-.

-- Remove the lock washer -2-.

-- Remove the clamp -3-.

-- Remove the heat shield for the expansion valve -4- from the bulkhead.

-- Label the coolant hoses -2- to the heating and A/C unit.

-- Remove the coolant hoses for the heater core -2- with the :3093 .

-- Unclip the clip -1- in the direction of -arrow- at the same time remove the coolant hoses -2-.

-- Connect a suitable hose -A- to the upper connection on the heater core.

-- Hold a suitable container -B- under the lower connection to the heater core -C-.

-- Use a compressed air gun to carefully blow the remaining coolant through the hose -A- out of the heater core and into the container -B-.

Vehicles with Refrigerant R134a

-- Discharge the refrigerant circuit. Refer to REFRIGERANT CIRCUIT, DISCHARGING WITH A/C Service Station .

Vehicles with Refrigerant R1234yf

-- Discharge the refrigerant circuit. Refer to the appropriate service information .

CAUTION:

Danger or frostbite due to refrigerant coming out under pressure.

Frostbite on the skin and other parts of the body is possible.

- Wear safety gloves.

- Wear protective eyewear.

- Extract refrigerant and open the refrigerant circuit immediately.

- If more than 10 minutes elapse after extracting the refrigerant and the refrigerant circuit was not opened, extract the refrigerant again. Evaporation can cause pressure to develop in the refrigerant circuit.

-- Remove the bolts -1-.

-- Carefully remove the refrigerant lines -2 and 4- from the expansion valve -3-.

-- Seal the open lines and connections with clean plugs from the : VAS6122 .

-- Remove the condensation water drain. Refer to CONDENSATION WATER DRAIN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the driver side footwell vent. Refer to DRIVER SIDE FOOTWELL VENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the footwell vent on the front passenger side. Refer to FRONT PASSENGER SIDE FOOTWELL VENT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the rear vent air guide channels. Refer to FRONT AIR VENT AIR GUIDE CHANNEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the instrument panel. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the nuts -1 and 2-.

-- Remove the instrument panel crossmember -3-. Refer to INSTRUMENT PANEL CROSSMEMBER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

-- Remove the heater and A/C unit -2- from the bulkhead -1- with help from a second technician and remove it from the vehicle.

-- Drain the remaining coolant over the : VAS6208 .
