Over-Center Spring: Removing

-- Turn off the ignition and disconnect the battery ground cable. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Move the driver seat all the way back and raise the steering wheel to its highest position.

-- Remove the drivers side trim and the cover under the trim. Refer to "Storage Compartments, Covers and Trim" in Removal and Installation .

-- Remove the bolt -2- and the left footwell vent -1-, refer to Description and Operation .

-- Remove the impact bolster support bolt -1- and impact bolster -2- before removing the clutch pedal.

-- Remove the nut -arrow- and pull the ground wire from the steering column.

-- Press the tabs -arrow- on both sides of the wire guide -1- toward the inside and remove the wire guide -1- from the guide on the steering column.

-- Remove the sound absorber -arrow- from the clutch pedal bracket, if equipped.

-- Remove the retainers -A- for the sound absorber.

-- Remove the sound absorber.

-- Push the sound absorber near the upper nut -1- above the clutch pedal -A- in the -direction of the arrow-.

-- Remove the nut -2- and the bolt -5- and then remove the clutch pedal -1- from the bracket -3-.

-- Move the clutch pedal slightly downward and remove the over-center spring -4- from the bracket.
