Sealing Flange, Transmission Side: Installing

NOTE:

Note the expiration date of the silicone sealant.

The sealing flange must be installed within 5 minutes after applying the silicone sealant.

-- Remove any sealant residue on the cylinder block using a flat blade scraper.

WARNING:

Danger of eye injury.

Wear protective eyewear.

-- Remove any remaining sealant on the sealing flange using, for example, a rotating plastic brush.

-- Clean the sealing surfaces, they must be free of oil and grease.

-- Remove any oil residue on the crankshaft journal with a clean cloth.

-- Cut the sealant tube nozzle at the front mark (nozzle diameter: approximately 2 mm).

-- Apply the sealant onto the clean sealing surface of the sealing flange as shown.

Thickness of sealant bead: 2 to 3 mm

NOTE:

The sealing flange must be installed within 5 minutes after applying the sealant.

The sealant bead may not be thicker than specified, otherwise the excess sealant could enter the oil pan and clog the oil intake tube strainer.

The guide sleeve T20097 may be removed only after the sealing flange has been installed on the crankshaft journal.

-- Position the guide sleeve T20097 on the crankshaft journal.

-- Slide the sealing flange onto the crankshaft journal with the guide sleeve T20097.

-- Tighten the bolts.

Tightening sequence and specification, refer to Figure.

NOTE:

After installing the sealing flange, the sealant must dry for approximately 30 minutes. Only after then may the engine oil be added.

The rest of the installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.
