Over-Center Spring: Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

-- Lubricate all bearing areas and contact surfaces.

-- Replace the self-locking nuts.

-- Install the over-center spring -2- in the bracket from the top. Hold the end of the spring in its installed position using the Assembly Tool T10178 when installing the spring.

• The mounting area -arrow- for the clutch pedal pivot pin -A- must be positioned vertically.

-- Insert the clutch pedal pivot pin -A- into the mounting area of the over-center spring.

-- Press the clutch pedal slightly, push the bolt through and tighten the self-locking nut to specification, refer to Tightening Specifications .

Some vehicles have a sound absorber -arrow- on the clutch pedal bracket.

-- Move the noise insulation -arrow- back into its installed position.

-- Install the impact bolster support -2- and tighten the bolt -1- to specification, refer to Tightening Specifications .

-- Install the wire guide -1- under the steering column.

The tabs -arrow- on both sides must clip into the column.

-- Install the ground wire to the steering column and install the nut -arrow-.

-- Install the left footwell vent, refer to "Vents" in REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

-- Install the drivers side trim and the cover under the trim, refer to "Storage Compartments, Covers and Trim" REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

-- If disconnected, connect the battery, refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
