Drive Axle Overview, CV Joint VL 100

Outer CV Joint
- Replace only as complete unit.
- Removing. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, CV JOINT VL100 => Removing the outer CV joint .
- Installing: Using a plastic hammer, drive onto the shaft as far as the stop.
- Checking. Refer to OUTER CV JOINT, CHECKING .
Bolt
- 200 Nm +180° turn
- Bolt, Loosening and Tightening. Refer to Removing => .
- Replace after removal.
Right Drive Axle
Clamp
- Replace after removal.
- Tensioning. Refer to Figure.
CV Boot
- Check for tears and scuffing.
- Material: polyelastomer.
Clamp
- Replace after removal.
- Tensioning. Refer to Figure.
Plate Spring
- Installed position. Refer to Figure.
Thrust Ring
- Installed position. Refer to Figure.
Locking Ring
- Replace after removal.
- Insert in shaft groove
CV Boot
- Material: polyelastomer
- Without vent hole.
- Check for tears and scuffing.
- Drive off CV joint using drift.
- Before mounting onto CV joint, coat sealing surface using D 454 300 A2.
Clamp
- Replace after removal.
- Tensioning. Refer to Figure.
Left Drive Axle
Locking Plate
Internal Multi-Point Bolt
- First tighten diagonally to 10 Nm, then tighten diagonally again to the tightening specification:
  M8 bolt = 40 Nm
  
  M10 bolt = 70 Nm
- Replace after removal.
Locking Ring
- Remove and install using Circlip PliersVW161A.
Seal
- Bonding surface on CV joint must be free of grease and oil!
Inner CV Joint
- Replace only as complete unit.
- Removing. Refer to Figure.
- Installing. Refer to Figure.
- Checking. Refer to INNER CV JOINT, CHECKING .
Plate Spring
- Installed position. Refer to DRIVE AXLE, CV JOINT VL100 => Assembling .
