Rear Lid, Adjusting, Convertible: Notes

Torque Wrench 1331 5-50 Nm VAG 1331
Gauge - Gap Adjustment 3371

NOTE:

The rear lid hinges on a Beetle Convertible have centering pins on each side.

It is not necessary to adjust the rear lid if the same lid is being removed and then installed again.

Rear Lid, Adjusting

NOTE:

The vehicle must be on the ground when adjusting the rear lid.

Lid lock -2- is bolted directly to the rear lid -1-. It does not have any elongated holes so it cannot be adjusted.

The left and right buffers -3- are not meant for adjusting. They stabilize or cushion the rear lid.

The rear lid is properly adjusted when there is an overall even gap dimension when closed, it is not too far inward or outward and contours align.

Rear lid must engage in striker pin -4- without great force.

-- Make sure the adjusting buffers do not have too much pre-tension, refer to ADJUSTMENT BUFFER, ADJUSTING .

To adjust or control gap dimensions use the Gauge - Gap Adjustment 3371 .

-- Loosen the nuts -6- and the nuts on the centering pins -7- and adjust the rear lid in direction of -arrow a- and -arrow b-.

-- Loosen the bolts -5- and adjust the rear lid in direction of -arrow c- and -arrow d-.

-- Striker pin, adjusting, refer to STRIKER PIN, ADJUSTING .

-- After adjusting, apply a corrosion protection to the hinge and bolts.
