Valve Shaft Seal: Installing

-- Place plastic sleeve -A- on valve stem to prevent damage to new valve stem seals -B-.

-- Oil the sealing lip of valve stem seal -B-, insert into Seal Installer - Valve Stem 3365 and carefully slide onto valve guide.

-- Remove the plastic sleeve -A-.

-- Insert valve spring and valve spring retainer.

-- Install the Valve Cotter Tool Kit VAS 5161A as shown.

NOTE: If the valve retainers were removed from the installation cartridge, they must be inserted into Valve Insertion Device VAS 5161/18 next.

Press Installation Cartridge VAS 5161/8 onto insertion device from above and take up valve retainers.

-- Press the Valve Cotter Tool Kit - Assembly Cartridge VAS 5161/8 down with the Pressure Fork with Lever for Assembly Cartridge VAS 5161/2. Then tap lightly against the lower part of the installation cartridge, turn the knurled screws back and forth and pull it upward at the same time.

-- Release Pressure Fork with Lever for Assembly Cartridge VAS 5161/2 with the knurled screw still pulled.

-- Remove the Valve Cotter Tool Kit VAS 5161A.

The rest of the installation follows the reverse of the removal procedures. Note the following:

-- Remove the Crankshaft Locking Pin T40069 from the back of the cylinder block and install the bolt.
