Oil Pan Upper Section: Installing

Silicone sealant

NOTE:

Be sure to check the expiration date of the silicone sealant.

The oil pan (upper part) must be installed within five minutes after application of silicone sealant.

Replace the bolts were tightened with an additional turn.

Replace the gaskets, seals and self-locking nuts.

-- Remove any sealant residue on the cylinder block using a flat blade scraper.

WARNING:

Danger of eye injury.

Wear protective eyewear.

-- Remove any remaining sealant on oil pan upper section using, for example, a Hand Drill with Plastic Brush Attachment.

NOTE: See if the timing chain cover is deformed. Then mount the upper section of the oil pan without any sealant and check the gap between the cover and the top section. If deformation is found and the cover cannot be aligned, replace the cover after installing the oil pan upper section.

-- Clean sealing surfaces, must be free of oil and grease.

-- Check for dirt in the oil passages in the oil pan upper section and in the crankshaft housing.

-- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter: approximately 2 mm).

-- Apply silicone sealant -arrow- to the clean sealing surface on the oil pan upper section.

CAUTION: The lubrication system could be plugged with excess sealant.

Do not apply sealant bead thicker than indicated.

Thickness of sealant bead: 2 to 3 mm.

-- Apply the silicone sealant between the cylinder block and the lower timing chain cover as shown -arrows-.

NOTE:

The oil pan upper section must be installed within five minutes after application of silicone sealant.

The sealant bead may not be thicker than specified, otherwise excess sealant could enter the oil pan and clog the oil intake tube.

On the transmission side, the upper part of the oil pan and the crankcase must align.

-- Position the upper section of the oil pan immediately and tighten the bolts, tightening sequence, refer to Figure.

-- Install the bolts -arrows-. Tightening specifications, refer to -item 13- OVERVIEW - TIMING CHAIN COVER .

-- Install the rear sealing flange, refer to SEALING FLANGE, TRANSMISSION SIDE .

-- Install the oil pump, refer to OIL PUMP .

-- Insert the new oil baffle and attach it.

-- Install oil pan lower section, refer to OIL PAN LOWER SECTION .

Assemble in reverse order of disassembly.

-- Fill the engine oil and check the oil level, refer to => 14.2Engine Oil, Draining or Extracting and Filling, Replacing Oil Filter.
