Oil Pan Upper Section: Installing

CAUTION: Risk of contaminating lubricating system and bearing.

Cover open parts of engine.

WARNING: Wear safety gloves and protective eyewear when working with sealant and grease remover.

-- Remove the sealant residue on the cylinder block and the oil pan upper section with a commercially available chemical sealant remover.

-- Clean the sealing surfaces; they must be free of oil and grease.

NOTE: Be sure to check the expiration date of the sealant.

-- Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter: about 2 to 3 mm (0.078 to 0.118 inch)).

CAUTION: The lubrication system could be plugged with excess sealant.

Do not apply sealant bead thicker than indicated.

If the Belt Pulley Side Sealing Flange is Not Replaced.

NOTE:

After removing the old silicone seal for the cylinder block surface, the lower sealing flange surface on the pulley side has an approximately 1 mm offset

This must be evened out onto the corresponding area of the oil pan sealing surface using the necessary sealant application.

-- Apply sealant bead -2- to the clean sealing surface on the oil pan upper section -1- as shown in the graphic.

In the area of the sealing surface the four holes between the -arrows- around the holes 3 to 4 mm (0.118 to 0.157 inch).
In the area of the sealing surface on the ribbed belt side sealing flange between the -arrows- : 3 to 4 mm (0.118 to 0.157 inch).
In the area of the cylinder block sealing surfaces and the transmission side sealing surface: 2 to 3 mm (0.078 to 0.118 inch).
The bead of sealant must be able to be replaced in both height and width of the previous silicone seal near the sealing flange area on the belt pulley side.

NOTE:

Apply the sealant bead very carefully in the area of the sealing flange.

The upper section of the oil pan must be installed within five minutes of applying the sealant.

If the Belt Pulley Side Sealing Flange is Replaced.

-- Apply sealant bead -2- evenly to the clean sealing surface on the oil pan upper section -1- as shown in the graphic.

In the area of the sealing surface the four holes between the -arrows- around the holes 2 to 3 mm (0.078 to 0.118 inch).
Sealant bead thickness: 2 to 3 mm (0.078 to 0.118 inch).

NOTE:

Apply the sealant bead very carefully in the area of the sealing flange.

The upper section of the oil pan must be installed within five minutes of applying the sealant.

Continuation for All Work Procedures

-- Insert the splash wall.

-- Position the upper section of the oil pan and tighten the bolts, refer to Figure.

The oil pan upper section must be flush with the intermediate plate on the transmission flange.

NOTE:

The three bolts -10- to -12- are specially coated with sealing paint, pay attention to the allocation when installing.

Allocation of the bolts.

Replace the bolts.

When installing the oil pan upper section to a removed engine, make sure that the oil pan upper section is positioned flush with the cylinder block on the flywheel side.

Allow the sealant to dry for approximately 30 minutes after installing the oil pan upper section. Only after then may the engine oil be replenished.
