Selector Shaft Seal: Installing

-- Lightly coat the outer circumference of the new seal with oil.

-- Fill the area between the sealing and dust lips -arrow- halfway with sealing grease for seal G 052 128 A1.

-- Install the seal using the Press Piece - Shift Rod/Alternator VW 423.

-- Attach the transmission shift lever to the gear shift unit, refer to Figure and tighten the nut to specification.

NOTE: Grease the bearing areas and sliding surfaces on the relay lever and transmission shift lever, refer to Figure and to Figure. Use the correct grease.

-- Install the relay lever and cable retainer -arrow 2- all the way into the gear shift cover.

-- Install the clip -arrow 1- and make sure it is locked into place.

-- Apply a small amount of grease to the transmission shift lever pin -arrow- for the transmission shift lever -1-.

Use the correct grease allocation.

-- Secure the shift cable -2- to the transmission shift lever with a new lock washer -3-.

-- Install the selector cable into the cable retainer on the relay lever.

-- Adjust the shift mechanism. Refer to SHIFT MECHANISM, ADJUSTING .

-- Install the complete air filter housing, refer to one of the following:

Gas engine, refer to (CCTA, CBFA) Installing or (CPLA, CPPA) Installing . .

Diesel engine, refer to Installing .
