Removal And Installation: Transmission: Installing

-- Make sure the alignment sleeves are pressed into the engine flange.

-- Make sure the intermediate plate fits correctly.

-- Make sure the torque converter is installed correctly. Refer to TORQUE CONVERTER .

Install in reverse order of removal.

-- Carefully life the transmission using the Transmission Support 3282 and bring into the installed position.

-- Install the connecting bolt between the engine/transmission and tighten to the tightening specification.

-- Tighten the six converter nuts -arrow- using the Socket - SW15V/175

CAUTION:

If the nuts fall in the torque converter opening, they must be removed. If necessary remove the transmission from the engine again.

-- Replace all bolts -1- and -2- for the left subframe mount.

-- Install all the new bolt first hand-tight.

When installing fasten the transmission bracket -A- to the transmission using the bolts -1-. Refer to ASSEMBLY MOUNTS ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .

-- Align the engine/transmission in its installed position. Lift until the transmission bracket is touching the transmission mount completely.

CAUTION:

Risk of damaging threads in transmission bracket by inserting bolts crooked.

Before installing bolts -2-, transmission bracket and transmission mount support arm must be absolutely parallel to each other. If necessary, lift the back of the transmission with Engine/Gearbox Jack VAG 1383A.

NOTE:

Install the engine/transmission mount free of tension. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

-- Install new bolts -2- of left assembly mounting into transmission mount and tighten to tightening specification. Refer to ASSEMBLY MOUNTS ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .

WARNING:

Do not remove the Engine Support Bridge 10-222A until all of the left and right subframe mount bolts have been tightened to the specification.

-- Install the pendulum support with new bolts first on the transmission -B arrows- and then on the subframe -arrow A-. Tightening Specification. Refer to DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION , DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION , DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION or DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .

Attach the drive axle to the transmission, while doing so attach the ball joints to the control arm. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

-- Install the heat shield over the right drive axle, if removed. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

-- Assemble exhaust system and fasten exhaust system bracket to subframe. Refer to DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION , DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION , DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION or DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .

-- Install starter. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

-- Attach the clamps for the power steering line to the transmission. Refer to DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .

-- Install the coolant hoses to the ATF cooler according the markings made during the removal.

-- Attach the selector lever cable to the transmission and adjust it. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE, CHECKING AND ADJUSTING .

-- Install the plenum chamber cover. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

-- Install the lock carrier trim and the bolts -arrows- for the left and right front end brackets. Refer to DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .

-- Install the battery tray and the battery. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

-- Check the coolant level and fill if necessary. Refer to GENERAL INFORMATION , GENERAL INFORMATION , GENERAL INFORMATION or GENERAL INFORMATION .

-- Check the ATF level. Refer to ATF LEVEL, CHECKING .

-- Install the left and right front wheel housing liner. Refer to DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .

-- Install the noise insulation. Refer to DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .

-- Attach the wheels. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

-- Install the engine cover and the air filter. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION , REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

-- Perform a basic setting. Connect Vehicle Diagnosis Tester and select "perform basic setting" under Guided Functions .
