Transmission Fluid, Draining And Filling
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Vehicle Diagnostic Tester
- Oil Filler: VAS6262A
- Also Oil Filler - Adapter 6: VAS6262/6 for some fluid containers
- Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit: SMN372500
If filling the transmission fluid, only use transmission fluid that is available as a replacement part. Refer to the Parts Information.
Requirements
- The engine is off.
- The vehicle is level and all hoist supports are the same height.
- Noise insulation is removed if necessary
- The selector lever must be in "P."
- The Vehicle Diagnostic Tester is connected.
- To begin working, the oil temperature must not be higher than 45 °C (113 °F).
Procedure
-- Only use the DSG® transmission fluid available as a replacement part. Other oils can cause malfunctions or transmission failure.
Risk of injury due to hot gear oil.
-- Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester and check the fluid level.
Let the transmission cool down if the fluid temperature is higher than 5 °C (113 °F).
Do not start the engine if there is no transmission fluid in the transmission.
-- Engine off - do not start!
- The : SMN372500 is positioned under the transmission.
-- Remove the drain- and check plug -arrow-.
A black plastic overflow pipe is located in this hole (with 8 mm inner hex socket). Its length determines the fluid level in the transmission.
-- Remove the overflow pipe -arrow- and let the fluid drain.
About 5 liters (5.28 quarts) of oil will drain.
-- Install the overflow pipe and tighten it to the tightening specification.
-- If necessary change the transmission fluid filter. Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID FILTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
Shake bottles well before opening so that the settled components at the bottom of the bottle are mixed sufficiently with the oil.
-- Install the : VAS6262A into the check hole hand-tight.
-- Shake the fluid containers before opening.
-- Attach the : VAS6262A to the oil bottle. Be sure to read the instructions.
-- Fill 5.5 liters (5.81 quarts) oil.
-- To change containers, close the shut-off valve or hold the : VAS6262A higher than the transmission.
-- Only tighten the drain and check plug -A- hand tight.
-- Start the engine.
-- Press the brake pedal and select each selector lever position for approximately 3 seconds, then move the selector lever back into >>P<<.
-- Do not turn off the engine.
-- Then check the fluid level and fill if necessary. Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL, CHECKING .
