Transmission Fluid, Draining And Filling

Special tools and workshop equipment required 

If filling the transmission fluid, only use transmission fluid that is available as a replacement part. Refer to the Parts Information.

Requirements

Procedure 

-- Only use the DSG® transmission fluid available as a replacement part. Other oils can cause malfunctions or transmission failure.

WARNING:

Risk of injury due to hot gear oil.

-- Connect the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester and check the fluid level.

NOTE:

Let the transmission cool down if the fluid temperature is higher than 5 °C (113 °F).

WARNING:

Do not start the engine if there is no transmission fluid in the transmission.

-- Engine off - do not start!

-- Remove the drain- and check plug -arrow-.

A black plastic overflow pipe is located in this hole (with 8 mm inner hex socket). Its length determines the fluid level in the transmission.

-- Remove the overflow pipe -arrow- and let the fluid drain.

About 5 liters (5.28 quarts) of oil will drain.

-- Install the overflow pipe and tighten it to the tightening specification.

-- If necessary change the transmission fluid filter. Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID FILTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .

WARNING:

Shake bottles well before opening so that the settled components at the bottom of the bottle are mixed sufficiently with the oil.

-- Install the : VAS6262A  into the check hole hand-tight.

-- Shake the fluid containers before opening.

-- Attach the : VAS6262A  to the oil bottle. Be sure to read the instructions.

-- Fill 5.5 liters (5.81 quarts) oil.

-- To change containers, close the shut-off valve or hold the : VAS6262A  higher than the transmission.

-- Only tighten the drain and check plug -A- hand tight.

-- Start the engine.

-- Press the brake pedal and select each selector lever position for approximately 3 seconds, then move the selector lever back into >>P<<.

-- Do not turn off the engine.

-- Then check the fluid level and fill if necessary. Refer to TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL, CHECKING .
