Overview - Multi-Link Rear Axle, Rear Brakes CI 38

NOTE:
After replacing brake pads, depress brake pedal firmly several times with vehicle stationary so that the brake pads are properly seated in their normal operating position.
Use Brake Charger/Bleeder Unit VAS 5234 to extract brake fluid from brake fluid reservoir.
Install the Brake Pedal Actuator VAG 1869/2 to relieve pressure before removing a brake caliper or disconnecting a brake hose.

- 90 Nm +90° additional turn
- Always replace if removed
- If necessary, remove using Multipoint Socket T10035. Refer to Fig 2.

- Rear Speed Sensor --
- Before inserting the sensor, clean inner surface of the hole and coat with Hot Bolt Paste G 052 112 A3.
- Removing and installing. Refer to RIGHT/LEFT REAR ABS WHEEL SPEED SENSOR -G44- / -G46-, MULTI-LINK REAR AXLE .
- Axle Beam
- Removing and installing. Refer to AXLE BEAM .
- For the allocation.
- Brake Cover Plate
- Removing and installing. Refer to BRAKE SHIELD, MULTI-LINK REAR AXLE .

- Wheel Bearing Unit

- Brake Rotor
- Diameter 272 mm
- Thickness: 10 mm
- Wear limit: 8 mm
- Removing and installing. Refer to BRAKE ROTOR .
- Checking. For maintenance. Refer to BRAKE PAD THICKNESS AND FRONT AND REAR BRAKE ROTOR CONDITION, CHECKING .
- For the allocation.
- Do not use excessive force to separate the brake rotor from the wheel hub. If necessary, use rust penetrant, otherwise the brake rotors could be damaged.

- For securing the brake rotor
- Brake Pads
- Thickness: 12 mm without backing plate
- Wear limit: 2 mm without backing plate
- Check the thickness. For maintenance. Refer to BRAKE PAD THICKNESS AND FRONT AND REAR BRAKE ROTOR CONDITION, CHECKING .
- Always replace on both axles
- Removing and installing. Refer to BRAKE PADS, REAR BRAKES BOSCH ZOH BIR 38 .
- Brake Carrier with Different Guide Pins and Protective Cap
- Removing and installing. Refer to BRAKE CARRIER, DISC BRAKE .
- Supplied with sufficient grease on guide pins
- If protective caps or guide pins are damaged use repair kit. Use supplied grease packet to lubricate guide pins.
- Brake Caliper
- Do not remove the brake hose when changing the brake pads.

- Servicing. Refer to BRAKE CALIPER PISTON, CI 38 REAR BRAKES
- Adjust the parking brake after performing service work or replacing it. Refer to PARKING BRAKE, ADJUSTING, DISC BRAKES .

- Both tabs must be engaged in the brake caliper bracket
