Engine, Installing: Notes

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Servicing clutch

Vehicles with a manual transmission. Refer to [For transmission(s) 02Q] Description and Operation .
Vehicles with a DSG transmission. Refer to [For transmission(s) 02E] [For engine(s) CJAA] Description and Operation .

-- Make sure the alignment bushings for centering the engine/transmission are installed inside the cylinder block. Install them if necessary.

Secures the manual transmission to the engine

Vehicles with a manual transmission

-- Install the hydraulic line to the hydraulic clutch. Refer to [For transmission(s) 02Q] Removal and Installation [For transmission(s) 02E] [For engine(s) CJAA] Removal and Installation .

-- Install the gearshift mechanism on the transmission and adjust it if necessary. Refer to [For transmission(s) 02Q] Removal and Installation .

-- Bleed the clutch. Refer to [For transmission(s) 02Q] General Information .

Vehicles with a DSG transmission

-- Install the selector lever cable on the transmission and adjust it if necessary. Refer to [For transmission(s) 02E] [For engine(s) CJAA] Removal and Installation .

For all vehicles

-- Make sure there is enough clearance for the subframe and radiator when installing the engine/transmission sub-assembly.

-- Adjust the subframe mount. Refer to SUBFRAME MOUNT, ADJUSTING .

NOTE:

Make sure the particulate filter is not under tension when installed.

Replace the self-locking nuts, the seals, the gaskets and clamps.

Electrical Connections and Wiring Routing. Refer to 97 WIRING .

CAUTION:

Danger of causing damage to the decoupling element behind the particulate filter when removing and installing:

Do not bend the decoupling element more than 10°. Secure it with the Transportation Lock T10404.
Do not stretch the decoupling element.
Do not damage the wire mesh on the decoupling element.

-- Install the driveshafts. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Install the right driveshaft heat shield.

-- Tighten the bolts -1-.

-- Install the subframe. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Secure the A/C compressor. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Cabriolet

-- Install the subframe crossbrace. Refer to Removal and Installation .

For all vehicles

-- Install the battery and the battery tray. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Observe safety precautions after connecting the battery. Refer to Removal and Installation .

-- Fill the coolant. Refer to COOLANT, DRAINING AND FILLING .

-- Fuel System, Filling, refer to FUEL SYSTEM, FILLING/BLEEDING .

-- Check the DTC memories of all control modules. Erase any faults stored in the DTC memory using Vehicle Diagnostic Tester "OBD".
