SUBFRAME, Securing: Notes

Locating Pins T10096
Subframe Locking Pin (2 pc.) T10452

CAUTION:

The Locating Pins T10096 and Subframe Locking Pin (2 pc.) T10452 have different diameters.

The color differentiates them:

Locating Pins T10096 are BLACK.
Subframe Locking Pin (2 pc.) T10452 are SILVER.

To locate subframe, Subframe Locking Pin (2 pc.) T10452 must be screwed in one after the other on both sides of the vehicle at positions -3- and -4-.

NOTE:

Subframe Locking Pin (2 pc.) T10452 may only be tightened to a maximum of 20 Nm, since otherwise the threads of the locating bolts will be damaged.

The Locating Pins T10096 must be installed in locations -1- and -2- one after the other.

Installing Subframe Locking Pin (2 pc.) T10452

-- Remove the front bolt -3-.

-- Install the Subframe Locking Pin (2 pc.) T10452 -1- and tighten it to 20 Nm.

CAUTION:

Subframe Locking Pin (2 pc.) T10452 are SILVER.

-- Remove the front bolt -4-.

-- Install the Subframe Locking Pin (2 pc.) T10452 and tighten it to 20 Nm.

Installing Locating Pins T10096

Beetle Sedan Only

-- Remove the rear bolt -1-.

-- Remove the left underbody panel. Refer to Description and Operation .

-- Remove the left subframe brace -1-.

-- Remove the bolts -2- and -3- and the subframe brace -1-.

Continuation for All Vehicles

-- Install the Locating Pins T10096 -1- and tighten it to 20 Nm.

-- Remove the rear bolt -2-.

Beetle Convertible Only

-- Remove the right underbody panel. Refer to Description and Operation

-- Remove the right subframe brace -1-.

-- Remove the bolts -2- and -3- and the subframe brace -1-.

Continuation for All Vehicles

-- Install the Locating Pins T10096 and tighten it to 20 Nm.

Position of front axle is now secured.

Continue removing the subframe without the steering gear. Refer to Steering Gear Bolts -9- And -10- .

Continue removing the subframe with the hydraulic steering gear. Refer to Engine/Gearbox Jack VAG1383A -1- under the subframe .

Continue removing the subframe with the electro-mechanical steering gear. Refer to Engine/Gearbox Jack VAG1383A -1- under the subframe .

Continue with removing stabilizer. Refer to Remove the stabilizer from subframe -7- and -8- .

Power steering gear, removing and installing. Refer to STEERING GEAR, HYDRAULIC STEERING GEAR .

Remove the Locating Pins T10096 and Subframe Locking Pin (2 pc.) T10452.

Remove the Locating Pins T10096 and Subframe Locking Pin (2 pc.) T10452 in reverse order of installing.

Beetle Convertible Only

-- Install the subframe brace -1-. Refer to SUBFRAME BRACE .

-- Install the right and left underbody panels. Refer to Description and Operation .
