Camshaft, Measuring Axial Clearance: Procedure

-- Remove the guide frame CAMSHAFT .

-- Secure the Dial Gauge VAS 6079 on the cylinder head with the Universal Dial Gauge Mount VW 387 as shown.

-- Press the camshaft against the dial gauge by hand.

-- Set dial gauge to "0".

-- Press the camshaft off the dial gauge and read the value:

Intake and exhaust camshaft axial play:

Specified value: 0.048 to 0.118 mm.
Wear limit 0.17 mm.
