Valve Shaft Seal: Removing

-- Follow repair instructions. Refer to GENERAL INFORMATION .

To remove valve stem seals, the following valves must be removed as follows:

-- Remove the camshafts. Refer to CAMSHAFT .

-- Remove the roller rocker levers and lay them on a clean surface. Make sure that the roller cam followers are not interchanged.

-- Remove the spark plugs with the Spark Plug Removal Tool 3122 B.

-- Tighten the Guide Plate VAS 5161/19B to the cylinder head using the Knurled Bolts VAS 5161/12 as shown.

-- Adjust the piston of the respective cylinder to Bottom Dead Center (BDC).

-- Screw Adapter T40012 into spark plug thread and connect compressed air of at least 6 bar (87 psi) positive pressure.

-- Loosen any stuck valve retainers using a Drift VAS 5161/3 and a plastic hammer.

-- Screw Engaging Device VAS 5161/6 with Installation Fork VAS 5161/5 into Guide Plate VAS 5161/19B.

-- Insert Installation Cartridge VAS 5161/8 into Guide Plate VAS 5161/19B.

-- Attach the Pressure Fork VAS 5161/2 to the Engaging Device VAS 5161/6.

NOTE: The Pressure Forks VAS 5161/2 must engage on the exhaust side as shown.

-- Press down Installation Cartridge VAS 5161/8. At the same time, turn knurled bolt of Upgrade Kit VAS 5161/8 to the right, until the points engage in the valve retainers.

-- Lightly move knurled bolt of installation cartridge back and forth, this causes the valve retainers to be pressed apart and captured in the installation cartridge.

-- Release Pressure Fork VAS 5161/2.

-- Remove the Valve Cotter Tool Kit - Assembly Cartridge VAS 5161/8, the valve spring retainers and the valve springs.

-- Remove the valve stem seals using the Puller - Valve Seal 3364.

-- If there is not enough clearance to use the Puller - Valve Seal 3364, drive the roll pin -arrow- out using a drift and remove the impact attachment.

-- Place the lower part of the Puller - Valve Seal 3364 onto the valve stem seal.

-- Install a drift -1- into the hole into the lower part of the removal tool.

-- Position a lever at assembly device and pull out valve stem seal -arrow-.
