Overview - Timing Chain Cover

  1. Bolt
    • Tightening sequence, refer to Fig 2
  2. Upper Timing Chain Cover
    • Removing and installing, refer to Fig 2.
  3. Cover
  4. Bolt
    • 4 Nm 45°
    • Replace after removing
  5. Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 -N205-
  6. Seal
    • Replace after removing
  7. Seal
    • Replace if damaged
  8. O-Ring
    • Replace after removing
    • Coat with oil before installing
  9. Engine
  10. Lower Timing Chain Cover
    • Dependent on the sealing compound sealant, bends the cover when removing. For this reason the cover must always be replaced after removing.
    • With seal
    • Replacing, refer to LOWER TIMING CHAIN COVER .
  11. Shaft Seal
  12. Plug
    • Replace after removing
  13. Bolt
    • Replace after removing
    • Tightening sequence eight bolts, refer to Fig 3
    • Tightening sequence 15 bolts, refer to Fig 4
  14. Bolt
    • 9 Nm
  15. Oil Dipstick Tube
  16. Bolt
  17. Engine Support

-- Tighten the bolts in two stages and in the sequence -1- through -6- as shown:

Stage Bolts Tightening Specification/Additional Turn
1. -1- through -6- Install by hand all the way
2. -1- through -6- Pre-tighten to 9 Nm

-- Tighten the bolts in two stages and in the sequence -1- through -8- as shown:

Stage Bolts Tightening Specification/Additional Turn
1. -1- through -8- Pre-tighten to 4 Nm
2. -1- through -8- 45° additional turn

-- Tighten the bolts in two stages and in the sequence -1- through -15- as shown:

Stage Bolts Tightening Specification/Additional Turn
1. -1- through -15- Tighten to 8 Nm
2. -1- through -15- Then an additional 45° (1/8) turn
