Fuel Supply System Safety Precautions

When working on the fuel supply, note the following:
WARNING:
There is a risk of injury because the fuel is under very high pressure.
- The fuel injection system is separated into a high-pressure section, a maximum of approximately 120 bar (1, 740 psi) and a low-pressure section of 4 to 7 bar (58 to 101 psi).
- Before opening high pressure area, fuel pressure must be reduced to a residual pressure of approximately 6 bar (87 psi). For the procedure, refer to HIGH FUEL PRESSURE, REDUCING .
To reduce the risk of personal injury and/or damage to the fuel injection and ignition system, always observe the following:
- The ignition must be switched off before connecting or disconnecting injection and ignition system wiring or tester cables.
- Wash the engine only when the ignition is turned off.
- If the connectors were disconnected and the engine was started, then malfunctions have been stored in the engine control module DTC memory: Generate readiness code in Guided Functions Vehicle Diagnosis Tester.
CAUTION:
Risk of damaging electronic components when disconnecting the battery.
- Complete the steps for disconnecting the battery.
- Disconnect the battery only when the ignition is turned off, refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
WARNING:
Burn risk due to escaping fuel.
- Because the Transfer Fuel Pump -G6- runs briefly when the battery is connected and the driver's door is opened, the voltage supply to the -G6- must be disconnected before opening the fuel system.
-- Remove the circlip for the Fuel Pump Control Module -SB- in the Fuse Panel B -J538- in the engine compartment E-box; fuse assignment, refer to Wiring diagrams, Troubleshooting & Component locations.
